"The STARS of my heart ..."
In 1989 I bought my first Afghan Hound, Sakkara, through an
ad in the local newspaper. Sakkara completed her Canadian title in conformation and then went
on to Obedience and lure coursing where she excelled as Canada's top hound, finishing her career with Utility; the highest level in obedience, Lure Coursing
Excellent and passed the Temperament Test.
After observing many Afghans in the U.S., I had a vision of a "look" I wanted. I purchased a male puppy,
Nike, from Kabik Afghans. At that time, I was not
aware of the famous "Pepsi" who Chris and Marguerite Terrell were the breeders. Chris handled Ch. Kabik's The Challenger to Best in Show at the 1983
Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. Chris currently is the last breeder/owner/handler to have won Westminster.
Nike, American/Canadian Champion, Specialty Best in Show, Oval Track Champion and Lure Coursing Champion Excellent, proved his worth. Nike was the first
Afghan to gain titles in conformation, lure coursing and oval track in both Canada and the U.S. My handling skills improved with Nike as he continued to
win time after time.
Nike is the sire of the famous Aries, my first homebred that I campaigned in the U.S., and who put Polo Afghans on the map worldwide. Aries is a Multi Best
in Show winner, National and Multi Specialty Best in Show, American/Canadian Grand Champion, Lure Coursing Champion and Companion Dog. He is the first
Canadian Afghan to win the U.S. National Specialty Best in Show; he made Canadian history winning the most Best in Shows as breeder/owner/handled and the
first Grand Champion in Canada. He also won the Canadian National and Award of Merit at both the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show and Eukanuba Invitational.
His accomplishments brought numerous breeding inquiries from afar resulting in offspring around the globe, many of which are now champions in their respective
country. Seven years ago a breeding inquiry from MyWay Afghans with Aries resulted in my taking back a puppy in
exchange for a stud fee; Lexus, American/Canadian Champion, an Aries daughter who is instrumental in my breeding
program.
Lexus, American/Canadian Champion Polo's I Did It Myway, completed her titles quickly and I soon found the right stud dog for her, Australian Grand Champion,
Gengala Super Trooper. I knew this was the right
dog for Lexus as he went back to the old Kabik Bloodlines which were the same as Aries and Nike. I felt this was key. Both dogs have the same relatives in
the great or great grandparents, and whose pedigree was worth its weight in gold. The result was an outstanding litter of ten. Three went to Russia where they
performed remarkably, winning many Best in Shows and Specialties, and many titles in Russia, Sweden, Finland and Lithuania. Four are American/Canadian
Champions and one is an Australian Champion. Other Polo Afghans reside in France and have obtained titles in France, Spain and Gibraltar.
Back on the homefront, Aries' career was over and from the Lexus litter I kept a male named Ace,
an American/Canadian Champion, Multi Best in Show/Multi Specialty
Best in Show winner. Aries put Polo Afghans on the map and Ace is making sure it stays.
Ace completed his titles without haste. In heavy competition at
the 2008 Eukanuba Invitational, he won the Breed taking a Group 2 at the Bred By Group.
February 2009 arrived and it was off to New York's 133rd annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.
This is "the show" to be seen. To win would be a dream come
true. Without corporate or other sponsorship, and after 20 years of hard work, sacrifice, dedication and determination, we were rewarded. Ace made history as
the first Canadian Afghan Hound to win Westminster Best of Breed. Our "dream" had become our "reality". Since returning from Westminster, Ace has won Best in
Show in Canada and a couple of Group 1's in the U.S. In mid-April, against tough competition from around the globe, Ace won the Afghan Hound Club of California
Specialty, the California Hound Club Best of Breed and the Western Hound Association of Southern California Award of Merit. Watch for this exciting hound as
his career is launched. His jets are hot.
I am so proud and honoured to have accomplished an excellent breeding program in which I am very grateful to Kabik Afghans
who started me with one of their
finest stock. My method of training has proven to work with many champion get worldwide and, Ace, the Westminster Best of Breed winner,
the 2009 Top Afghan in Canada and #3 in the U.S.A., however, #1 breeder/owner/handler.
All inquiries related to breeding and sponsorship are welcome, as well as inquiries for TV, movie, commercials and fashion shows. It is noteworthy to mention
that Sakkara appeared in the Red Dog Beer commercial; Nike in the movie Best In Show; and Aries in the movie Raining Cats and Dogs.
